LEADERSHIP
MINUTES
It was agreed that Sehome
would have their Getting to Graduation night the same night as Squalicum and
Bellingham High Schools. Phyllis will
check with the other schools and let everyone know the date. Details of this event will follow.
Possible dates for Spring
Open house were discussed. It was
decided that March 1st was the first choice and March 7th
the second choice. Phyllis will check
the district calendar to confirm the date and then she will let everyone know.
Graduation this year will be
on June 16th, 3:00 pm at Civic Field. All teachers are encouraged to attend.
Information was sent out by
John Vanhaalen and is to be read in 2nd period classes on November
16th or 17th.
The committee has not
reconvened yet.
A motion was made as
follows:
If the leadership team
agrees that the decision on the table will have a direct and immediate impact
on the daily operations of the classroom (ex:
Change in the daily schedule), that the decision will go to a vote of
the whole staff.
Motion made by Jim Gaines
Seconded by Amy Hankinson
Passed unanimously
Ø
There still seems to be
students eating in the halls during lunch, which creates garbage in the halls
Ø
Videos are being
randomly put up and should be contained to second period. Too much class time is lost. John Van Haalen will now be in charge of
approving and timing of all videos shown.
Ø
There seem to be too
many announcements at the end of the day.
This should be limited to 2 to 3 minutes.
Ø
There is extra time
during second period for announcements but there seems to be too many
interruptions. It was suggested that
we look at rotating some of the Student Council meetings to other periods.
Ø
A question was brought
up as to when Sehome is scheduled for remodel.
This will probably not happen for several more years.
Ø
There seems to be
tension with the staff due to the heavy workload. Everyone feels overwhelmed.
Discussion followed about the possible reasons and solutions
For the first time the
Gates Foundation will be sponsoring events for teachers from different
department to look at and study how to prepare students for College. The following people will represent Sehome:
Social
Studies – Dave Hageman & Lisa Brosseau
English
– Jim Gaines and Don Helling
Math
– Maria Griggs and Phil Henoch
Science
– Amy Hankinson and Steve Evans
Sehome held the first
Multi-Cultural Event. They sent out
100 invitations and also sent messages on the auto dialer in all
languages. This was a great effort and
made students and parents feel connected.
Great things are
happening with the History Grant. The
research and writing being done by the students is very impressive.
Student, Kim Foster
made skirts for all of the orchestra members as part of her Culminating
Project.
Congratulations to
Judson and Lori Swets on the birth of their daughter Lydia Kate on November 14th.
The deadline for
Culminating Project proposals is this Friday, November 16th. As of today only 41 students are not meeting
this deadline.
