October 26, 2004
Present: Michelle Nilsen, Jim Kistner, Craig Ferguson, Julian Rondello, Polly Favinger, Laura Derose, Bobbie Jaffe Nash, Jane Wynn
Excused: Dana Smith
Minutes from the October 5, 2004 meeting were approved with the following correction: Polly was the one who agreed to check with Haggen’s
Action plan was reviewed and updated.
Jim will follow up with the appropriate people to get the Mariner Memo posted on Sehome’s website
Approximately 60% of the staff is using Parent Connect. It was suggested that a Parent Connect form be placed in the next Mariner Memo so that more parents could gain access to this resource. Jim will see that this happens. Julian asked if students could get their own access and Michelle will check into this.
Nancy Barga is working on getting directional signage in place.
Julian will check with ASB to see if they want to do anything further with the year markers.
A mural is too expensive and will not be pursued at this time.
Jim will check with John Mangan and possibly at a staff meeting about updating web pages. It was noted that some sports pages are very dated and that several departments could use some updating.
Facility updates are an ongoing matter and discussions are being held at the district level. No immediate plans for Sehome.
Please read “Reporting Strategic
Plan Progress prior to next meeting.
Bring questions and comments to meeting on November 16, 2004.
Jim reported that the Strategic Plan will include an additional math goal which will be measured by the number of students enrolled in math classes beyond the required two years.
The Culminating Project information meeting was held on October 20, 2004, and was attended by 200-300 people. There are still a lot of questions that need to be answered at the district level. There will be an all day meeting of selected Sehome staff, administrators, and parent representatives on November 4, 2004. Jane Wynn will be the parent rep from Site Council.
Kevin Johnson’s class will be holding a mock election. This simulation will be open to all Sehome students. Students will have to observe registration timelines, etc.
Lots of Sehome students participated in Make A Difference Day.
Honor Society will be sponsoring a blood drive and a food drive.
Michelle has been appointed as one of only four school counselors in the country to work on the Initiative for the National Council for School Counselor Advocacy at the College Board satellite office in Washington, DC. This is a very prestigious appointment and she will do some groundbreaking work in her field. This initiative involves training school counselors way beyond their current training that is heavily based on mental health counseling.
PTSA recently put on a well received lunch for teachers and staff that included ribs. There are no figures available yet from the Umbrella Fest. Umbrella Fest will probably be scheduled to occur after all three of the high schools have had their open houses.
Open House was well attended. Spring Open House will be discussed at next meeting. Please bring ideas. Craig will ask Mark Toney how Burlington did theirs.
Respectfully Submitted,
Bobbie Jaffe Nash
