Dress Code Committee report:

Nancy Barga submitted a draft policy from the Dress Code Committee.  The committee looked at Bellingham High School’s policy and drafted a dress code that would be reasonable, enforceable, respect personal style of students, encourage parental involvement, and protect the safety of students and staff.

Site Council members requested the addition of no gang-related clothing and no clothing that was derogatory against any racial group.  Nancy Barga will do a final editing of the policy and run it by Phyllis and John for final approval.  The new dress code policy will be distributed in the fall.

Site Council representation:

Phyllis Textor reported that Steve Globerman and Patrice Clark have won the election for Site Council Parent Representatives.

Matt Goldfogel has requested to be the senior student representative on the Site Council for next year.  The Site Council interviewed Matt and voted to appoint him as student representative.

At the April 4, 2006 Site Council meeting, it was proposed that the Site Council bylaws be changed to read: “Students will have four representatives (ideally one from each grade level) selected through an application and interview process.  Student representatives must be enrolled and attending at least one class at Sehome to serve on the Site Council.”  This bylaw change was approved as read.

Tim Petryni mentioned that Student Site Council Reps have voting rights on the ASB Executive Council.  Because of this, it was decided that the student reps should be interviewed by both the Site Council and ASB Executive Council.

Principal’s report:

Phyllis Textor reported on the busy end-of-the-year activities including Senior Breakfast and award ceremonies and Seven Arts Week.  Phyllis is quite pleased with the WASL scores.

There was a discussion on the need to create better signage and school map.  It was decided to create a subcommittee for signage at the first Site Council meeting of the year.

There was a discussion to have clearer goals for the Site Council next year.  Phyllis suggested that at the first meeting the members go through responsibilities of the Site Council, the Strategic Plan, and identify goals and objectives for the year.

PTSA Report:

Bobbie Jaffe reported that a beautiful bench was donated by a student to PTSA.  It will be in a silent auction at the Senior Tea.

FIRST SITE COUNCIL MEETING:  Wednesday, September 13 at 2:30 p.m.
