Site Council Meeting

March 14, 2007

 

Present:          Ginger Thompson, Matt Goldfogel, Steve Globerman, Phyllis Textor, Patrice Clark, Jane Wynn, Cathy Moran, Shawn Doan

 

Absent:           Kathleen Nolan

 

The minutes were reviewed and approved as submitted.

 

Auto Attendant Feedback

Ø      Patrice reported she tried making some calls and that everything worked well.  Instructions were very clear.

 

PTSA Report: Jane Wynn

Ø      The three high school PTSA’s are having their yearly City Wide High School Pride garage sale at BHS on April 21.

Ø      Non-fundraiser is going quite well having received close to $5,000

Ø      Nominating committee has been working getting new officers for next year

Ø      There is approximately $2,000 available for teacher grants this year

Ø      $2,500 has been given to the school for the Culminating Project

 

ASB Report:  Matt Goldfogel

Ø      Spring sports are in full swing

Ø      Junior Prom is March 17, 2007

Ø      WASL is going on this week

 

Principal’s Report:  Phyllis Textor

     Above Baseline Requests:

Ø      Building Principals or Departments may request money for materials, projects, etc.

Ø      District reviews these requests and decides where extra monies will go

Ø      Site Council discussed, prioritized and voted on the Sehome department and building requests – The results were:

o       1) Building – Security Cameras - $35,000.00 or ten cameras – used for Safety /Loss/Theft  - which has been and increasing problem here at Sehome.  Phyllis presented the Loss & Theft Report – provided comparisons of Loss & Thefts for two school years (05/06 & 06/07)

o       2) Social Studies Department – Document Camera - $500

o       3) Health Textbooks - $6,500 for 100 books

o       4) American Literature Textbooks – $13,500 for 175 books.  These      books have not been replaced since 1974. 

o       5) English Department - $5,499 for 30 Quick Pads.  Would be used for writing essays, etc.  Would free up demand on the computer labs.

o       6) Science Department - $1,000 to maintain and clean microscopes

o       7) Music Department – Orchestra would like a Big Wheel to move piano

 

Motion was made by Ginger Thompson that we approve the Above Baseline Requests as prioritized.  Motion was seconded and votes taken.  Vote had one undecided, 1 abstained,  6 for.  Motion carried.

 

Security/Loss/Theft Report and Discussion – Next Step:  Phyllis Textor

Ø      Discussed theft report and why we need cameras

Ø      Suggested we teach students how not become a victim

Next Step:

Ø      Share with student leadership the Theft/Loss Report

Ø      Keep this on the front burner

Ø      Phyllis discuss this with the other two high school principals – see if they are having the same problem/amount of thefts/loss as Sehome

Ø      Discussed other ways of financing security cameras – WA State has Safe and Drug Free program with funds that they distribute to schools
