Present:   Steve Globerman, Bobbie Jaffe, Ginger Thompson, Cathy Moran, Phyllis Textor,

Jane Wynn, Patrice Clark

Absent:  Shawn Doan, Matt Goldfogel

The meeting was facilitated by Steve Globerman.

Minutes from April 26, 2007 meeting were reviewed.  Ginger made a motion to accept minutes

as read, it was seconded and unanimously approved.

PTSA Report- Bobbie Jaffe

There is a huge perceived problem with last year’s summer outdoor cinema in Fairhaven

with notably crowds of teens hanging out, including in some stores.  The merchants want parents

to supervise their kids better and the manager of the cinema asked if there was some way to get

the word out about this problem.   After some discussion, Site Council decided to get this news out

informally.

Karin Saadat will be next year’s PTSA president and thus will replace Bobbie on Site Council.

ASB’s Report- Matt’s absent today

Principal’s Report- Phyllis Textor

Governor Gregoire just signed a bill stating the math requirement has been delayed.  Phyllis hopes

the state will continue funding for more help when students don’t pass the WASL.

AP testing is both this week and next week.

Our district’s new superintendent will be Kenneth Vedra.

Follow-up on Theft- Phyllis

There’s good news. Our #1 request(security cameras) to the Above Baseline Requests has been approved.  Phyllis met with a representative and found out the cost for these cameras is less expensive than she first reported.  Also these new cameras are vandal proof and small, with some being portable.  SHS is going to get two this year and then get a third next year.

Our security officer, Josh, recently caught a SHS student up in the woods with several stolen items.

Also, a man was arrested after breaking into a student’s car in the Senior parking lot.

New Graduation Requirements- Phyllis and Bobbie

Phyllis and Bobbie were on the Graduation Requirements Task Force and they both shared

the task force’s recommendations (handout given).  Overview of changes required for graduation by 2012-2014: 4 credits English; 3 credits Math; 2 credits World Language; 1 credit Occupational Education (w/o Tech Connections); 5 credits Electives.

Website Update- Phyllis

Phyllis talked with SHS’s librarian and found out he can add a FAQ(frequently asked question) page

with possible links.  Also the librarian will be involved with the district as they explore different schools’s websites.

Other Issues:

Jane Wynn’s Site Council position as a parent is open for next year.  Phyllis will inform parents through SHS’s eblast and on SHS’s home page.  Interested parents can write up a short description of why they would like to join the Site Council.  Then there will need to be a way for parents to vote.  Shawn Doan’s position on Site Council as a SHS teacher will also be open for next year and he has notified the staff.

                Follow-up for Site Council Members:

Phyllis wants us to write up more FAQs and email these questions to her (before the end of this school year).  Be specific to grade level and decide which category the questions should go in (see last month’s minutes for details).

Our next Site Council Meeting is scheduled for June 13 at 2:30 pm in SAIL Room.

Meeting adjourned at 3:47 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Patrice Clark
