STARS:  BASICS IN CHILDCARE

Grades: 10-11-12

No prerequisite

Semester: 1 & 2

Career Pathway: Human Services & Education

 

Students will cover the content and skill standards included in the following college courses:

WCC Credit: This course is the high school equivalent of Whatcom Community College's ECE 104 Basics in Childcare (2 WCC credits).
BTC Credit: This course is the high school equivalent of Bellingham Technical College's HLTH 130: HIV/AIDS for Childcare Providers (2 BTC clock hours).

 

Topics:

This course provides a basic, core knowledge of childcare based on DSHS state licensing and certification requirements.  Competencies are developed in communication, guidance, healthy practices and professionalism.

 

Special Interest:

·     The Occupational Childcare Professionals Licensing Certificate will be awarded upon successful course completion

 

·     This class is a "guided learning" option.  Students will work in the classroom, under teacher supervision.  They will be working independently or in a small group on the required learning packets.

 

·     Students will receive a Certificate of Competency upon completion

 

Grading:            Students are graded on: daily assignments, class projects and exams.  A portfolio will be required to earn the WCC credits.
